Culinary delights on the Isle of Canna - Café Canna

Updated: Apr 19

Located on the picturesque Isle of Canna, Café Canna has become a must visit destination for food enthusiasts and travellers alike. Drawing inspiration from the beautiful surroundings, the restaurant showcases the finest local ingredients: seafood from the clear sparkling Hebridean waters, meat from the fields next door, vegetables from the plot, fruit from the garden and seaweed foraged from the shore.

Café Canna - Seafood Platters

One of the highlights of dining at Café Canna is undoubtedly the seafood platters, available to pre-order and landed just as you sit down. Picture freshly landed whole lobster, brown crab and succulent langoustines all expertly prepared to highlight their natural flavours.

Gareth and his team aim to source as much from the island as possible and visitors might get the opportunity to accompany Gareth as he forages for seaweed along the shoreline before enjoying dishes such as crispy seaweed tempura, delicate seaweed salad and kelp miso ramen.

Much of Gareth's love for the island and its produce has been poured into his book: Café Canna Recipes from a Hebridean Island. Showcasing some of their most popular recipes along with tips and how to's to help you recreate the magic at home.

With its growing reputation as a must visit destination for food lovers, tables at the café tend to get booked up fast. All visitors are advised to book a table as early as possible to ensure you get to experience everything Café Canna has to offer - from its incredible food to its warm hospitality and stunning setting.

Café Canna opens from Saturday 20th April and is open every day except Tuesday from 11am to late. Bookings can be made here and certain dishes require pre-order.

If you aren't holidaying on the island this year but would still like to visit for a meal, you can head out with Caledonian MacBrayne from Mallaig for a day trip on Wednesdays (just over 2hrs) and Saturdays (full day) throughout the summer months. It's also possible to visit Canna for the day with Arisaig Marine on select Sundays throughout June and July. See below. If you are staying on Skye, you can head to Canna for a day trip with Bella Jane boat trips based in Elgol.
